The 'NOT'

Today in our gc class, Prof.Dr.Bins from the department of philosophy asked us a thought provoking question. Are we responsible for the things that we didn't do? My instant reflective answer was 'No'.  But one of our classmates presented an example that changed my perspective.

He said ,"if at all an accident occurs in front of us and we don't do anything to help that person then yes, we are responsible for not helping them and hence should be held accountable" . In this case one simply consciously chose not to contribute anything to the person in need.

Doesn't this say a lot about life? How we easily slip from the responsibilities of being a Human to another by simply claiming 'I didn't know' or 'I didn't do anything' but barely realise that when one does nothing to stop an injustice from happening under his/her watch then that's equal to being a part of the injustice itself. Aren't we all sinners then?

I feel that we as humans are slowly losing our inlaid quality of being one. By this I mean the simple acts of being kind to one another. Our tiny efforts can make one's day. It could be helping an elderly cross the road or reminding someone to take their bike stand.

Kindness lives in all these little acts. Next time just don't decide not to do certain things just because you think someone else would. Between all those NOTs one becomes a criminal. Be so full of kindness that it flows involuntarily out of you without a moment of thought. Simply be Humane.
