More to Learn,More to Go!

Yesterday I attended a workshop that was held by the Department of English SFS. It was to discuss Dr.Nirmal Selvamony's book on Tinai philosophy. When I was given this opportunity by my professor Uday sir I was honestly confused and scared. Then when I started reading the text I was even more scared, scared about letting my professor who gave me this opportunity down but nevertheless kept going. Tinai for me is just five category of lands but to see someone look much deeper into this aspect made me speechless amazed astonished and much more. All I wondered was what inspired this great man to write such a piece. The two days discussion felt like being in a completely new world among scholars having interactive conversation with seniors scholars and it still feels like a dream to recollect that moment.

Also made friends with many new people. With people from another stream ,with seniors and even had a easy flowing conversation with professors.I felt tired amidst the conversations felt drained and confused but never once regretted the moment all I felt was privileged for being a part of this wonderful moment.

I take away a lot of things from this workshop. The way how Tamil literature and English literature overlaps on one other. The fact that everything sought of connects beautifully. And now going back to the text and having a full-fledged  reading would make much sense.

At the very end it dawned upon me that how everyone is a LEARNER at the end of the day. No matter how much we claim to know but there will be a lot yet to learn always. And hearing this from a scholar Ms. Jeffilda provided me so much enlightenment. At that very moment she appeared to be so great for me. She was one among the friends that I made in the workshop. We were having casual conversation and then she said this,"I am still a learner" and I think realising this even after coming a long way takes one to much greater heights and I hope she does some day.

Thus the two days held so much weight and experience. And being in my first year and having read my first rigid philosophical text and to attend a workshop on it was indeed an epiphany for me. Truly lived every moment of it.I would like to end my blog by quoting the famous tamil saying, "கற்றது கைம்மண் அளவு, கல்லாதது உலகளவு" by ஔவையார் which translates to "What you have learned is a mere handful (of sand), what you haven't learned is the size of the world".
